One of the most pleasing aspects of music is seeing a band develop and grow from primitive beginnings to a fully fledged exciting pop group. Long Island quintet Twin Sister has done just that with ‘Bad Street’, the lead single from their forthcoming debut album ‘In Heaven’.
While last years EPs ‘Colour Your Life’ and ‘Vampires With Dreaming Kids’ introduced Twin Sister’s dreamy, blissed out pop groove and produced a minor blog ripple, ‘Bad Street’ takes their sound on to a whole new level. Gone are the breathy vocals and sweet sounds of their previous material in favour of a dirty, sexy, hypnotic disco groove, the change is dramatic but startlingly effective. Andrea Estella’s vocals are perfectly poised as she channels her inner disco diva intoning ‘I want it bad again and again.’
The production is noticeably superior to the more lo-fi sounds of their previous work giving a glossy pop sheen. Praise must also be given to the fabulous rhythm section that provides a rock solid funk groove throughout all adding up to a great dance floor filler.
‘Bad Street’ could be the track that Twin Sister need to translate blogosphere hype into genuine breakout success, but either way what is certainly clear is that they have made a fantastic pop single.
