Anthemic vocals, post-punk guitars and disjointed beats - meet Wild Palms. With their new single ‘Deep Dive’, this uneasy quartet has an intelligent and intriguing opus on its hands, shedding positive light on their impending debut album.
Wild Palms are by no means spewing out pathetic, meaningless songs like some. Far from that, their concentration and drive is clear. Their agitated, forward moving sound is both complimented and complemented by the melodic vocals of Lou Hill. Their guitar riff works superbly in this, drawing elements from the likes of Gang of Four, The Fall and to a lesser extent, Orange Juice. As with their debut single ‘Overtime’, their ambition is obvious and a direction is being followed. The basis of their songs is well grounded, but each single has so far a progressive take.
Where ‘Deep Dive’ will take Wild Palms we don’t know, but the band have established themselves as a bastion of fine music and integrity, in a worryingly shallow industry.
