Gold Panda - Good Luck and Do Your Best
3 StarsDerwin Panda’s latest is so far out there but at the same time feels right at home.
The third studio album from Gold Panda sees both imagery and sound bond together.
Compared to previous album ‘Half of Where You Live’, Derwin Panda’s sound finds a clearer sense of purpose, leaving the music to emerge from the depths of his creativity at steady pace.
Throughout, ‘Good Luck and Do Your Best’ tells a story. From seasonal colours and buildings to the country’s people, the album seamlessly retains the integrity of a trip through Japan. ‘Pink And Green’ in particular resembles this, as shimmering guitar strings and sonic sequences draw you closer to the visually disguised textures, while the organic chimes and sonic pounds of ‘Time Eater’ prove that Panda can be just as hard-hitting as he is humble.
What fascinates the most is the level of work collectively produced at home in Chelmsford, with fellow producer Luke Abbott on mixing duties. ‘Good Luck and Do Your Best’ is so far out there but at the same time feels right at home; making it one of Panda’s most thrilling pieces to date.
