Apple rejects Spotify's latest iOS update, Spotify goes mental

The latest update for Spotify’s iOS app have been rejected by Apple, prompting the streaming platform to state that “Apple uses the App Store approval process as a weapon to harm competitors.”

Spotify general counsel Horatio Gutierrez has hit back at the California-based computing giant, claiming they’re “causing grave harm to Spotify and its customers” by rejecting the latest update to Spotify’s iOS app for iPhone and iPad, supposedly by way of reducing competition for Apple Music.

“This latest episode raises serious concerns under both U.S. and EU competition law,” Gutierrez reportedly wrote in a letter penned this week to Apple general counsel Bruce Sewell. “It continues a troubling pattern of behavior by Apple to exclude and diminish the competitiveness of Spotify on iOS and as a rival to Apple Music, particularly when seen against the backdrop of Apple’s previous anticompetitive conduct aimed at Spotify … we cannot stand by as Apple uses the App Store approval process as a weapon to harm competitors.”

It’s all getting a bit vicious out there in those streaming wars, really - reports suggest Apple are also swooping in on Tidal.
