Courtney Barnett plays to the sunshine of Glastonbury 2014

The Aussie wins over the Park Stage.

Courtney Barnett plays to the sunshine of Glastonbury 2014

“It’s one of those places everyone talks about,” says Aussie singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett as she and band are mid-set on the Park Stage. She’s already pointed out how she bumped her head back stage (“I might be concussed”), commented on the improving weather (“I’m glad the sun came out”) and suggested that breakthrough single ‘Avant Gardener’ “probably paid for our ticket out here”.

Speaking to DIY pre-festival, she said “I won’t believe it until my feet are on the stage. Anything could happen between now and then. I could lose my memory like the guy from Memento and forget all my lyrics…”

Opening with ‘David’, Barnett and band amble their way through the likes of ‘Canned Tomatoes (Whole)’, ‘Are You Looking After Yourself?’ and brilliant stand-out, the “new song” ‘Pedicure’, its heavier grunge backing a more agitated vocal from the guitarist. And she didn’t (that we noticed) forget any lyrics.

Courtney Barnett played:

David
Lance Jr
Canned Tomatoes (Whole)
Scotty Says
Don’t Apply Compression Gently
Are You Looking After Yourself?
Out of the Woodwork
Blah
Avant Gardener
Pedicure
New Song
History Eraser

According to Barnett, her new album is “all recorded and it sounds mad.”
