MAUI thrash into view with debut single, ‘Slide In’

One of MAUI’s biggest influences decided to make a comeback today, but that doesn’t pale their vicious debut single ‘Slide In’ into insignificance. This is a pipe-bursting, snarling kick to the system, one that wouldn’t look out of place in a cast of dingy drunks.

As it stands, MAUI nod to Deerhunter and Pond in equal amounts to Blur. They’re led by Harry Edwards, a vocalist who claims to have a “life long alter ego called Russell.” Perhaps that’s where the insanity of this debut stems from, or maybe it’s from drummer Mark Thompson, who agreed to have his hair cut into a mullet for the price of a grand. Either way, it’s there, and these four are anything but a conventional new proposition.
