Alright mate
Thom Yorke, completely lacking in self-awareness, is bored of weird album releases
Maybe ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ was a weird shaped rollout too far?
Thom Yorke of Radiohead is apparently fed up with weird ways of releasing albums. “Just put it out, man,” he says. If you say so fella.
The revelation of sorts comes as part of a new Radio 1 co-host with Benji B, set to take place later tonight (7th September). In a snippet from the show (below), Thom sounds audibly exhausted by the shenanigans that come with releasing an album in 2016.
“Uggghhh,” he sighs when the subject of his BitTorrent release for solo album ‘Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes’ is brought up. “Enough of that now. I’ve entirely had enough of that… Just put it out, man. No more fuss, just put it out. I’m getting too old for that bit. It takes away from things a bit, sometimes - frustrating. The energy of trying to figure out how to do it differently and circumvent the monsters and you’re like… whatever.”
Let it not be forgotten that Thom started this whole business with the (mainstream) launch of ‘pay-what-you-want’ releases for Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’. Oh, and their new album ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ wasn’t much better, either - they distributed leaflets anonymously to fans, before wiping their entire social media presence and fading out to white. It was all very dramatic. We nearly had a breakdown in the process. And then there were the teasers. And the fact that it was kept off Spotify for an age. Oh god, enough - we can’t go through it again.
Hey, Thom mate - “just put it out, man.” (We’re with you, Yorkie, ‘fwiw’. Just clean up your own mess, yeah?)
