Tame Impala and Pond’s Cameron Avery shares solo track ‘C’est Toi’
He’s inked a record deal with Anti-, and is releasing an album next year.
Cameron Avery - who you’ll probably know as a founding member of Pond, and Tame Impala’s bassist - has announced plans to go properly solo. He’s previously released music with his old band The Growl, with Kevin Parker’s space disco side-project Kevin Spacey, and with his Pond bandmate Nick Allbrook under the name Allbrook/Avery. This, however, will be the first time he’s set out on his lonesome.
Inking a record deal with Anti-, Cameron’s releasing his debut solo album early next year. Today, he’s shared the first musical taster ‘C’est Toi’. If like Girls Aloud you don’t speak French (and let the funky music do the talking, talking) the title means ‘It’s You’.

Speaking about the song in a press release, Cameron Avery said: “It’s a love song I wrote about when I fell in love the last time. I recorded it with Jonathan Wilson at Five Star…It was the first time I got to work with Jonathan, being an old friend of mine and the guy who convinced me to move to L.A. and really encouraged me to make a vocally driven album. It’s also the first time I ever let anyone co-produce with me.”
It comes with a video to match, showing poor Cameron sombrely playing piano as a couple skip about exploring New York City and L.A. Watch that below.
