Hear Beach Slang cover The Adverts’ ‘Bored Teenagers’
It’s part of a brand new EP filled with cover versions.
Philly punks Beach Slang released an EP of covers around the same time as their debut album proper in 2015, and now they’re doing it all again!
‘Here I Made This For You Mixtape Volume II’ is set to be released on 10th February through Big Scary Monsters in the UK, and Polyvinyl elsewhere. It’ll feature covers of Tommy Keane, The Candyskins and Modern Lovers, as well as their version of ‘Sometimes Always’, a duet between The Jesus and Mary Chain and Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval.
In amongst that mix, they’ve also taken on The Adverts’ 1978 song ‘Bored Teenagers’. In a Facebook post, James Alex explained that they chose the track because: “The first time I heard ‘Bored Teenagers’ by The Adverts, I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I don’t know, maybe it still is.” They’ve added a new layer of angst, scuzzy riffs and clashing percussion on to the two-minute burst of classic staccato punk, making it feel super fresh in the process.
