This gorgeously dreamy little ditty sees Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan continue their collaborative efforts as last heard on their previous stroke of musical genius, the beautifully bleak ‘Ballad of the Broken Seas’. Awash with Campbell’s hushed whispers offset by Lanegan’s vocal gravitas, short of coming pre packaged with a pistol and a pair of cowboy boots, this is about as close to getting to modern day Americana as you’ll get.
Lush strings, whilst never intrusive to the melody, ably prop up their slightly forlorn lyrics about the downtrodden life on the open road and perfectly compliment the duo’s storytelling. The only minor quibble is that the single is perhaps a tad too short, though this point is more a testament to the quality on offer here than it is an outright criticism. Clocking in at just under three minutes, and taking into consideration what the two singers have created in that time is a timely reminder that their previous album was far from a one hit wonder. Dusty country melody at its best.
