Listen: Four Tet Streams New ‘Kool FM’ Track

Last week a radio rip surfaced of Four Tet’s ‘Kool FM’, the lead track from Kieran Hebden’s ‘Beautiful Rewind’ release (his 7th album to date), release date TBA.

Hebden’s since uploaded the track in full on Soundcloud. Beginning eerie and distant, it soon encompasses a ringleader-ready ‘hey hey hey’ call and some obscene, smouldering percussive parts. The radio rip of ‘Kool FM’ seemed ridiculously harsh on the senses, but the studio recording showcases a similar, purposefully overblown aesthetic from Hebden. The title of the track points towards some kind of honourable nod to pirate radio - that could be way off the mark, but it’d make sense.
