Describe your music to us in the form of a Tinder bio.
Two truths and a lie…
I am a horse.
I am 21 minutes long.
I am beaux’s new EP ‘a love letter to the moments spent outside’, available to stream now.

What’s your earliest musical memory?
I was obsessed with Queen when I was young, I had this ‘Greatest Video Hits’ DVD that I watched on repeat, and one day in Year 2, at school, we had a ‘show and tell’ type thing, so of course I had to whip out the Queen DVD. The video for ‘Bicycle Race’ started playing, and it has a load of clips of cyclists taking part in the Naked Bike Ride… of course the class erupts, I’m a legend, the teacher had her arms across the screen trying to shield the eyes of the innocent as she couldn’t get to the DVD player quick enough, and that was the last time I was allowed to bring my Queen DVD in.

Who were some artists that inspired you when you were just starting out (and why)?
Green Day were my first big inspiration. I would always read into the meanings of their lyrics, and I think that’s when I first fell in love with the idea of songwriting.
A few years ago I started listening to The 1975, they were the catalyst that kick-started my interest in music production. I was so inspired by ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’, I feel like it flicked a switch in my head and just made music production make sense to me, I produced my first EP not long after hearing it.

You’re from London! What do you think of the music scene there at the moment?
Well, in terms of the live music scene everything is obviously pretty dead at the moment, but London artists and artists from all around the UK are still putting out really great music. We’re so lucky that we have the internet right now, I’ve discovered so many new artists from places like TikTok in the past year, I think it’s a really exciting time for music.

Are there any other artists breaking through at the same time that you take inspiration from?
To be honest, I feel really inspired by all the other artists on my label right now. Artists like beabadoobee, who recently released an incredible album with a great campaign built around it, or Leo Bhanji, who’s EP ‘No Guard’ is so sick. It’s just very cool to be under the same umbrella as these other artists who I respect so much.

Who would be your dream collaborator?
I’ve been listening to quite a bit of Matilda Mann recently, I think she has such a lovely voice, so it would be sick to do something with her one day, and I mean, it would be great to work with any artist who’s really inspired my music like No Rome, The 1975, Rex Orange County, Jeremy Zucker, and many others.

Musically or otherwise, what are you most looking forward to this year?
I’m excited to release the next project that I’m currently finishing, and then I want to take some time to just experiment - write a lot, try out some different production ideas that I’ve had, and collaborate with other artists. Outside of music, I can’t wait for summer, I’m sick of the cold and it getting dark so early, and hopefully we’re allowed to hang out with people by then!

If people could take away one thing from your music, what would it be?
I’m happy for people to take away whatever they’d like, if someone just thinks a tune sounds alright, that’s good with me haha, but if someone else wants to read further into the lyrics and really appreciate my openness and honesty then that’s amazing - if they’re in a bad spot I hope that they can find comfort in relating to an emotion or experience that I’ve sung about.
