Every day of the week, Neu gives you a choice show and a selection of new music tips, all in the name of exposing you to something new and exciting.
If there’s a gig that’s worth heading to, we’ll tell you all about it, and if there’s a song you need in your life, we’ll make sure it doesn’t fly under the radar. It’s the Neu Bulletin.
THE GIG
Young Fathers, Bagel Project - Shacklewell Arms
Anticon signings Young Fathers continue their steady growth with a London date tonight. We’re also particularly intrigued by support Bagel Project. Fummi White is a DIY artist whose live show is one we’ve been eager to check out for a while.
THE SONG
Fyfe - Solace
So this is interesting. And as much as we’re all supposed to think as much (the nifty artwork, the arty style, the minimal xx-patented sound that’s become so recurrent in new music), it’s hard not to get swept in by Fyfe’s charms. We’ve a fairly good idea of who Fyfe is, but for fear of being harangued by our own shortcomings, we’ll enjoy the initial anonymity of the project. We’re particularly liking the choir vocals and the slap bass. An odd, surprisingly satisfying combination. Thanks to Horrowshow Tunes for the introduction.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Ifan Dafydd - Celwydd
In a compilation for Recordiau Lliwgar, producer Ifan Dafydd does more than enough to provide evidence of his steady ascent. This guy is honing his craft bit-by-bit, and I actually think he’s done well to avoid the circuital ‘tips for the year’ lists, because he’s going to spring up on a lot of people and take them by surprise, in the very best of ways.
