2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize Watch Foals & SEED Ensemble talk inspirations and the 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize
We caught up with Yannis Philippakis and Cassie Kinoshi around this year’s edition of the Prize.
Last month, the whole music industry gathered together to celebrate some of the finest British and Irish albums released in the past twelve months, as part of the 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize.
And while by the end of the ceremony, it was announced that Dave was the winner for his incredible debut ‘Psychodrama’, there’s no denying that all twelve of the shortlisted albums included were incredibly important records, for both artist and fan alike.
Ahead of the ceremony itself, we caught up with Foals’ frontman Yannis Philippakis - who was celebrating the band’s third nod, for their recent album ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost - Part 1’ - and SEED Ensemble band leader Cassie Kinoshi - who was shortlisted for debut ‘Driftglass’ - to discuss exactly what it means to be involved in the Hyundai Mercury Prize, and to open up about some of the albums that’ve, in turn, inspired their work and life in music so far.
