In the magazine May 2023

Featuring Squid, Miya Folick, Peace, Rina Sawayama, Temps and more.

It might seem like barely two minutes have passed since we first really got our teeth into Squid’s breakthrough single ‘The Dial’ (“funky, weird-as-hell, intense, catchy,” we called it, all the way back in August 2018) but for the better part of five years now, the band have worked to carve out a satisfyingly bizarre but delightful niche, pairing serious musicianship with their more light-hearted, irreverent approach. On their forthcoming album - next month’s ‘O Monolith’ - they’re pushing themselves even further, and that’s why we’re incredibly excited to welcome them to the cover this month to learn more about their next chapter.

Elsewhere in our May 2023 edition, we meet James Acaster’s Party Gator and dive into his new musical project Temps, Miya Folick talks us through the resilience and strength that flows through new album ‘ROACH’, and we reconvene with Demob Happy, as they ready their hefty new album.

Also in our latest issue, we chat to Alison Goldfrapp about her solo debut, get prepped for festival season with Rina Sawayama, have a catch up with Prima Queen, and meet the brilliant Hannah Jagadu. And what’s more, we welcome back longtime DIY faves Peace, who - about to play their first shows in four years - are as mind-boggling and brilliant about their return as we could’ve hoped…
