The accolade has previously been won by Emeli Sande (2012), Jessie J (2011) and Ellie Goulding (2010).

The shortlist has been announced for the 2013 BRITs Critics’ Choice Award.

The accolade - which has previously been won by Emeli Sande (2012), Jessie J (2011) and Ellie Goulding (2010) - will go to AlunaGeorge, Laura Mvula or Tom Odell.

Speaking of their nomination, AlunaGeorge have said: ‘We both feel incredibly honoured to be shortlisted for this award. Completely blown away, it’s a great feeling to have our music recognised in such a big way. 2013 is going to be an incredible year for UK music.’

The winner will be announced on Thursday 20th December, whilst the full BRIT Awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday 20th February at The O2 Arena, hosted once again by James Corden.

Next year’s statue will be designed by Damien Hirst, following on from Sir Peter Blake’s design in 2012, and Dame Vivienne Westwood’s in 2011.
