Alvvays planning “a couple of new songs” for summer festivals
The band are playing Best Kept Secret this June.
This spring Alvvays are heading to Holland for Best Kept Secret festival (19th - 21st June), which they’ll play alongside Alt-J, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, The Libertines, Royal Blood, Death Cab For Cutie, The Vaccines, Future Islands, Metz and a whole heap more. Before then, Molly Rankin takes a super (super super) quick break during a long drive to Raleigh, North Carolina to answer a few questions about the band’s festival plans.
You’re playing Best Kept Secret festival this June, is it one you’ve been to before?
We’ve never been!
Are there any bands playing Best Kept Secret you’re definitely going to see?
The Jesus and Mary Chain. Hopefully we’ll get catch Ariel Pink play ‘Jell-O’.
Do you have anything special planned for any of your set? Are you likely to debut new material?
No holograms or onstage defecation, but probably a couple of new songs.
Which of your songs do you most enjoy playing to a festival crowd?
‘Adult Diversion’ usually succeeds in getting a wiggle out of people.
What’s the most essential item to pack when going abroad for a festival?
A raincoat, sunscreen, shades would be the boring answer. Magical cookies if you’re solely spectating and seeking alternative stimuli.
Can you remember your first festival?
Osheaga in Montreal was the first one I went to parentless. Pavement, the Walkmen, Arcade Fire a week before ‘The Suburbs’ came out, The National, Sonic Youth, Weezer. I’m not sure there’s been a better line-up.
If you could give punters one bit of advice for when it comes to festivals, what would it be?
What’s a punter?
