Angel Haze releases all-new track ‘CANDLXS’

Sampling everything from panpipes to Mumford & Sons, the song comes along with artwork painted by Angel Haze.

Last night Angel Haze released a new song, ‘CANDLXS’ while most people in the US were preoccupied with munching pretzels and watching the New England Patriots win the Super Bowl. Earlier this week she announced her intentions on twitter, sharing pictures of blank canvases on twitter, and admitting “its different, [CANDLXS], it really is. I’m blindfolded swinging at a pinata made of my insides. The new track is produced by TROY NoKA, who has previously worked with Frank Ocean, Miguel and Ciara.

“This is one of the first songs I wrote for my new record (also painted the artwork),” says Angel Haze, writing on her Tumblr. “It feels incredibly personal, but I’m happy to finally share the passion I’ve felt but couldn’t express.”

Having established herself as a rapper, Angel Haze is increasingly moving towards singing, and turns out she’s a dab hand at both. “If we both know what we’ve found, baby forever we can make it,” she sings, before vocal manipulation leads into a soaring chorus. There’s panpipes, and even a breakdown section that samples ‘White Blank Page’ by Mumford & Sons - yet still, it all works flawlessly. She’s always had a gift for storytelling, and ‘CANDLXS’ shows Angel Haze at her most creative, daring, and emotionally upfront.
