Arca streams new cover of Shakira’s ‘Hips Don’t Lie’

A month on from releasing his debut full-length, Venezuela via London producer Arca is streaming a sort-of-surprise cover/remix of Shakira’s ‘Hips Don’t Lie’.

It’s only slightly a surprise in the sense that in the past couple of years, Arca’s otherworldly productions have stood on the fringes of chart-ready pop. Credits on Kanye’s ‘Yeezus’ and FKA twigs’ first two EPs cemented this, while debut album ‘Xen’ decided to steer way off into an obscure, all-absorbing distance.

Any original element of Shakira’s ‘00s #banger is replaced by seething wood instruments and beats that scatter into dagger-like jolts.
