Banquet Records To Accept HMV Gift Cards

As is always the case in these situations, as soon as HMV called in the administrators, they had to stop accepting previously issued gift cards. Which, so close to Christmas, has left many shoppers upset and annoyed.

But Kingston’s Banquet Records seem to have come up with a solution, which means that for the next few days, you’ve got a chance of turning that bit of plastic into actual records again.

“We’re very aware and sad that people are looking at losing their jobs, and we’re concerned about the effect HMV’s possible closure may have on physcial releases in general.” They’ve written on their website, “However, one gripe many have is the current situation where gift cards are now no longer valid at HMVs. Whatever happened, its certainly no fault of the person who got someone a Christmas gift, and its unfair on someone to not be able to use their credit.

“We wanted to find a way to make these gift tokens valid at our store. But the system using an oyster-esque card, means we’ve got no way of knowing how much credit is on them. So this is the best idea we could come up with. We’ll offer anyone with an HMV gift card 50% off in our store up to and including Sunday 20th January.”

There are a few terms and conditions of course, so head over to Banquet’s website to check out exactly how it works.

As an idea, it’s pretty good; enticing record shoppers to their store, as well as ensuring that some of those who were feeling the effects of HMV’s current predicament have a slightly better time of it.

“We want people to come and experience our record shop,” they’ve said, “To see its not all doom and gloom for music retail nor for the high street in general. To come and re-embrace physical releases and the experience of buying them.”

You’ll find Banquet at 52 Eden St, Kingston.
