Battles have gone vocal-free for their third album ‘La Di Da Di’, and they’re now streaming the lead track, ‘The Yabba’.
The experimental trio’s first song in four years, it was one of a handful of cuts to be previewed in the band’s recent, looping live session, filmed in New York.
Speaking to Rolling Stone about their decision to go all-instrumental on LP3, drummer John Stanier says: “It was kind of open-ended. We never said, “This record, we’re gonna go out and make it, and there will be no vocals whatsoever.” It was more like, ‘There might be; there might not be. Let’s just see what happens — let’s not worry about it right now.’ Then, the next thing you know it’s like, “Well, I guess there aren’t any vocals on this record.” It didn’t seem that important.”
Listen to ‘The Yabba’ over on Rolling Stone. ‘La Di Da Di’ is out 18th September on Warp.
