BBC Radio 6 Music listenership figures hit record high
Digital station reaches 2 million weekly listeners, according to new stats.

BBC Radio 6 Music reaches an average of 2 million weekly listeners, according to new figures, placing the digital station at a record high.
In the first three months of 2014, the station was listened to by 2.1 million listeners per week, according to new Rajar stats published on 5th February, via The Guardian.
This makes 6 Music the first digital station to pass 2 million weekly listeners, a remarkable achievement given its threat of closure five years back.
Presenter Lauren Laverne (pictured) tweeted the news, her flagship morning show being a key factor in the station’s success, with Gilles Peterson, Elbow’s Guy Garvey and Steve Lamacq other key presenters.
Back in 2010, BBC Radio 6 Music was threatened with closure - thanks to an online petition, the station was saved from being pulled.
This month sees the second ever BBC 6 Music Festival take place in Tyneside. Confirmed acts include The War on Drugs, Interpol, Sleater-Kinney, Glass Animals and Royal Blood.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
