Beck plays own support set at Detroit gig

The support pulled last-minute, so the singer-songwriter performed two sets.

Looks like Albert Hammond, Jr’s scheduled support slot with The Strokes in Las Vegas isn’t that much of a rarity after all.

As Billboard reports, at his concert at the Fox Theatre in Detroit over the weekend (Saturday 28th June), Beck and band performed two full sets, after support band The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger pulled last-minute (the magazine suggests border-crossing issues following the previous night’s gig in Toronto is to blame).

The set was split in half - the first, an acoustic-led ten songs taken largely from ‘Morning Phase’ and ‘Sea Change’ (‘Lost Cause’, ‘Blackbird Chain’, ‘Blue Moon’), and the second a 12-song greatest hits collection (‘Loser’, ‘Devil’s Haircut’, ‘Hell Yes’, his own ‘I Think I’m In Love’ segueing with Donna Summer classic ‘I Feel Love’).

The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger are expected to appear at tonight’s Hammerstein Ballroom date in New York City (30th June) as planned.

Beck’s US tour continues throughout the summer, before he returns to the UK for Festival No. 6 and Bestival, plus Electric Picnic in Ireland.

There’s still chance of that second album of 2014, too.
