Benjamin Clementine explores identity on new track ‘Jupiter’

His new album ‘I Tell A Fly’ is out in September.

Mercury Prize winner Benjamin Clementine is set to release his new album ‘I Tell A Fly’ on 15th September via Virgin/EMI.

He’s already shared two dramatic tracks from it – ‘God Save The Jungle’ and ‘Phantom of Aleppoville’ – he’s revealed the slightly more laid-back cut ‘Jupiter’. On it, he explores the nature of identity across a lilting, slightly warped synth line and his own signature piano, letting his voice weave his thoughts on the topic across the top.

Speaking of the track, Benjamin said: “Seeing my visa just opened everything for me. Saying ‘Jupiter’ for me was like saying ‘Europa’, or ‘England’, or ‘Edmonton’. Me wandering around in America….there was Trump and Clinton, there was the Orlando attack, the New Orleans attack - here I was thinking I was living in a safe place, but nothing was really safe anymore, or ever. It’s a poke at people being called aliens by some people, like we’re from another planet. I think we’re all forever aliens”.

Later in the year, Benjamin is set to head out on a tour of the UK, taking ‘I Tell A Fly’ to various venues across Britain. Tickets are on sale now.
