Bill Ryder-Jones explores Liverpool for YNTHT and Philips’ latest ‘Lost and Found’ exploration
See the former Coral frontman obsess over city staples for this new feature.
The best music arrives from unlikely sources, and that’s proven more than ever in the latest instalment of You Need To Hear This and Philips’ latest ‘Lost and Found’ exploration. The third part in a new series lands in Liverpool, where local musician Bill Ryder-Jones (formerly of The Coral) scours the staples of his city to find samples for a unique new song.
A special trip sees Ryder-Jones taking in the parts of Liverpool that helped shape his music. He takes the train under the Mersey, visits his home neighbourhood of West Kirby, and pays local buskers to perform a couple of notes, before he takes all his findings to a local studio. His aim is to produce a track that’s “not too abstract”, and the results are fascinating.
