Billy Corgan gives up on wrestling, takes up musicals

Scripted fistycuffs, musical theatre - is there really much of a difference?

Billy Corgan has ended his affiliation with Chicago-based indie wrestling promoters Resistance Pro Wrestling, but is getting into the world of musical theatre.

In a statement released via Twitter, the Smashing Pumpkins frontman revealed: “For those interested, I’ve left RESISTANCE PRO WRESTLING, officially and unofficially. Details to follow in the coming weeks. And though this is by no means a way to reach them, I’d like to thank the talented wrestlers, managers, and valets I’ve worked with.”

Previously, Corgan had acted as ‘creative director’, and was set to appear in an upcoming AMC reality series before it was cancelled half way through development last month.

However, Corgan won’t be lacking in things to do. As well as an upcoming Smashing Pumpkins record, he’s one of the names attached to ‘The 48-Hour Musicals: Encore!’, which will see him both writing and co-producing a 20-minute musical within two days.

The Chicago Tribune reports Corgan’s production is based on “the Eleusinian Mysteries, a religious rite in Ancient Greece”. The production will run between 4th and 14th December at The Musical Theatre Company.
