Brighton band Abattoir Blues bring thuggish charm to new ‘Blinded’ track

Recorded and mixed by The Magic Gang’s Kristian Smith, this track features on new compilation Beech Coma ‘Vol. 2’.

This September, Leeds-based label Beech Coma is bringing out ‘Vol. 2’, a compilation of fresh-faced bands up to their knees in think waves of fuzz. Various links bring some of these groups together, but mostly they’re united in their amped-up spirit. The sold out ‘Vol. 1’ featured songs from King TV and Home School, and this second stint is being led by punchy, shout-centric favourites Abattoir Blues.

Brighton-based, the five-piece refer to themselves as “thugcore”, with tongues placed firmly in cheeks. But there’s a definite bullish spirit to ‘Blinded’, their latest number, which premieres on DIY. Recorded and mixed by Kristian Smith (of the Magic Gang), it’s led by Harry Waugh’s splintering vocals, which always sound on the verge of morphing into an actual assault. “Thugcore” might just be the word for it, but chances are Abattoir Blues are a right bunch of softies who just happen to adore being mind-glowingly loud.

The ‘Beech Coma Vol. 2’ compilation is very nearly sold out (3 copies left at the time of writing) - pre-order here.

Catch Abattoir Blues at Art Is Hard Records’ ‘Hardly A Party’ all-dayer in Dalston, London, on August 24th.
