New Zealand duo Broods are keeping it in the family for their new single ‘Mother & Father’.

This is Georgia and Caleb Nott’s first new material since the self-titled ‘Broods’ EP from earlier this year, and it’s a continuation of their slickly-applied, emotionally-led pop.

Georgia told DIY that the song’s being “terrified of everything” - “It’s just about getting used to being on your own and being independent, trying to make the most of it rather than being scared of it.”

It’s losing friends that you had for years, everyone moving in different directions,” backed up Caleb, about the track that’s clearly self-referential about Broods’ recent ascent to the spotlight.

Broods confirmed that the new track’s taken from a debut album, tentatively due out in 2015. “We wrote it for the album. We had five weeks and wrote the whole album. We did it very quickly,” said Georgia.

Watch Broods play The Alcove stage at Latitude 2014, 17th-20th July.
