Carrie Brownstein makes Conan appearance
The Portlandia star talks Sleater-Kinney, portraits and marriage proposals with co-star Fred Armisen.
With the season five premiere of Portlandia airing last week (Thursday 8th January) in the US and Sleater-Kinney preparing the release of their first album in ten years, ‘No Cities To Love’, Carrie Brownstein made a guest appearance on Conan O’ Brien’s talk show Conan (12th January), alongside her co-star Fred Armisen, to discuss their recent work.
The duo discussed Brownstein’s revered band, who reformed last year, and how Armisen considers himself a member of the band. The former Saturday Night Live comedian spoke jokingly of taking on the role of roadie and merch-seller for the band’s forthcoming tour.
“I’m going to (go out on tour), I’m going to be a roadie. I want to set up amps, I want to set up drums,” he said. When asked by the host if he thought he would be the right person for the job, Armisen quipped; “I can’t lift anything.”
Brownstein also discussed her fans and their proposals of marriage. When asked by O’Brien about them sending her wedding proposals on Twitter, the singer / guitarist questioned in jest their legitimacy.
“A Twitter or an Instagram post doesn’t seem the most romantic way to propose, but I’m tempted just to call them out on it. Just to say “Yes, when is this happening?”

Sleater-Kinney’s eighth album, ‘No Cities To Love’, is set for release on 19th January on Sub Pop. Earlier seasons of Portlandia are available to watch in the UK on Netflix.
