Carrie Brownstein shares her ten "Desert Island" books

Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney has revealed her list of ten books that she would take on a desert island.

Part of a feature for One Grand, a new curated bookstore opening in New York this August, Brownstein was asked by Aaron Hicklin on literature she couldn’t live without. The ten picks have been posted on The New York Times’ T Magazine site, with commentary on why she couldn’t live without each text.

The list includes:

James Baldwin - ‘The Devil Finds Work’
Philip Larkin - ‘Collected Poems’
Lorrie Moore - ‘Birds of America’
Virginia Woolf - ‘The Waves’
Simon Winchester - ‘The Professor and the Madman’
Joan Didion - ‘Slouching Towards Bethlehem’
Justin Torres - ‘We The Animals’
Carson McCullers - ‘Ballad of the Sad Cafe’
Truman Capote - ‘Other Voices, Other Rooms’
Maggie Nelson - ‘The Argonauts’
