Charli xcx drops anticipated 'Wuthering Heights' soundtrack album

Swapping neon green for black lace, Charli xcx has officially moved beyond her ‘BRAT’ era with new album ‘Wuthering Heights’ (out now) - an original 12-track project that also serves as the score for the latest cinematic incarnation of the infamous romance.

Directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie (as Cathy) and Jacob Elordi (as Heathcliff), the new film - based on Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel of the same name - has just hit cinemas across the UK. Initially, Fennell had reached out to Charli asking if the pop superstar would consider writing one song for the project; craving something completely different to the clubland world of ‘BRAT’ she was inhabiting at the time, Charli instead delivered a whole soundtrack.

Introducing ‘Wuthering Heights’ to the world, lead single ‘House’ - an uncanny collaboration with none other than The Velvet Underground’s John Cale - landed back in November, followed by more recent cuts ‘Chains of Love’ and ‘Wall of Sound’. Elsewhere on the record, Charli also teamed up with Sky Ferreira (who features on ‘Eyes of the World’), and worked with former DIY cover star Joe Keery (aka Djo).

Writing on Instagram, Charli has described these collaborations as “a dream come true”, calling Wuthering Heights “one of the greatest love stories of all time” before aptly summarising the ethos of the album: “Elegant and brutal xxx”.
