Premiere Clock Opera ring the bells of their return with ‘Changeling’
The choral trio add meat to their bones on their first hint at 2016’s second album, premiering on DIY.
A hypnotic loop of bells forms the backbone of ‘Changeling’, Clock Opera’s returning fanfare. Premiering below exclusively on DIY, it’s a haunting return, the London band bulked up and menacing like never before.
Recorded on a day-off in the midst of a German tour, that bell-tower sample spirals onwards throughout, dragging the track through dizzying highs. There’s a welcome weight to Clock Opera’s new guise though. Backed up by guttural bass reminiscent of Wild Beasts and their contemporaries, ‘Changeling’ sees the sample-happy trio breathe a pleasingly sinister new life into their falsetto-led craft. “Another film left I left in a camera,” whispers vocalist Guy Connelly, “never to see the light of day” - backed by the band’s darker new backdrop, it’s spine-tingling.
