Premiere: Clock Opera Debut ‘Clock Operation’ Track
Clock Opera premiere the track created via their ‘Clock Operation’ project, with fans submitted sound clips.
Clock Opera recently partnered up with DIY to launch a new interactive contest, which depended entirely on fans’ involvement; the four-piece set out to create a brand new song comprised entirely from submitted sound clips.
The submission closing date came and went at the end of last week, and it’s now time to unveil the finished track - have a listen to the multimix below. Contributions came from the likes of Maximo Park, Theme Park, and Everything Everything, with the full list looking like this:
Aline Shinzato, Axel Henry, Cheto, Deadhead UK, DJ SVA, Everything Everything, Filthy Dukes, Gareth O’Malley, Gary Legend of Magic & Fur, Gregory Emfietzis, [HackedDead], Henk Lasschuit, Hideous Wheel Invention, Inventors, Izabel Menezes, Jenny Tate, Jon Blake, Lukas Wooller of Maximo Park, Luke Smith, Magnets, Makoo, Man Without Country, Mark Spivey, Maxximk, Memory Maze, Michael Celedron, Naxdon, Nick Gill of The Monroe Transfer, Petar Rogulja, Ratri Anugrah, Re Smith, Rob Ball, Rubb, Smallholding, Solar Fox, Stuart Wright, The Dark Lights, The Tiger’s Bride, Theme Park, Tim Love Lee, Timothy Folkema, UNKLE, Zentih Vesper
Mainman Guy Connelly says of the project: ‘In was incredible to see the inbox filling up so many odd sounds from around the world. Some intimate, some wild, some mechanical, some very human.
‘I think most people gave a sound of something was near to them at the time they wanted to make a recording, which is how I work most of the time too. So it felt like we were all sharing the same process.
‘I loved the California automated weather report and as one of the few vocals of any description, it made sense to use this a lot. Also, it seemed to fit with the tension of the music that was appearing.
‘Many sounds only appear once or twice, others much more. Some may be hard for their creators to spot as I’ve altered or affected most of them in some way or other. A surprising number of cats were submitted, multiple screams & one parrot attack.
‘All in all, It came together quickly & I loved doing it. Let’s do it again.’
