Cloud Castle Lake preview debut EP with ‘A Wolf Howling’ track
Irish trio are steadfirst in making ambitious, atmospheric music - debut EP ‘Dandelion’ is incoming.
In the credits for their new ‘A Wolf Howling’ track, Cloud Castle Lake are insistent on labelling all the various bits of gadgetry that went into the process. Daniel McAuley isn’t just bossing on vocals, he’s also jugging a couple of Korgs and goodness knows what else - whatever he can get his hands on. It’s this deadly serious studio knowledge that’s serving them well, up to now.
‘A Wolf Howling’ is overflowing with bright, smartly-executed ideas, and being know-it-alls doesn’t prevent the Irish trio from exploding with personality.
On the finest preview of their debut ‘Dandelion’ EP so far, they coil and creep into the foreground. McAuley’s vocals - initially unassuming, deadly in intention all the same - burst into flames. In the end, he sounds very much like a ‘Wolf Howling’, in bloodthirsty honour to the song’s title.
Studio geeks can cause one hell of a storm, so it proves. ‘Dandelion’ is out 22nd September in the UK via Happy Valley.
Cloud Castle Lake play London’s Sebright Arms, 25th September.
