Daft Punk make rare live appearance at Dirtybird’s Culture Clash
The robotic duo came out of hiding to play at Dirtybird’s Redbull Music Academy Culture Clash in San Francisco.
Despite releasing ‘song of the summer’ ‘Get Lucky’ last year, Daft Punk have been an elusive pair. It looks like they’ve come out of hiding though; the French electronic robot extraordinaires made a rare live appearance at The Redbull Music Academy Culture Clash in San Francisco last night.
Pitting different musicians against one another in a battle of the bands cum DJ soundclash type setup, four crews went head to head, with team Dirtybird taking on Triple Threat, Dub Mission and Tormenta Tropical. Claude Von Stroke’s Dirtybird imprint boasted a line-up of Major Lazer and rapper Too $hort, along with two performers who bore an uncanny resemblance to Daft Punk. Unfornunately, even with the help of Daft Punk, Dirtybird still lost out to the Triple Threat DJ crew.
Of course there’s speculation that the transformer-esque pair on stage were a pair of doppelgängers- it’s certainly a stunt that’s been pulled before. Let’s just say it was Thomas and Guy, though. You never know, we might get lucky and see a Daft Punk tour all too soon. In the meantime, take a look at the video footage captured by an attendee at the show.
