Day Wave unveils new single, ‘Total Zombie’
Brain-feeding nightcrawler is a sweetheart in disguise, from this exciting California newcomer.
Jackson Phillips aka Day Wave makes easy-on-the-ear, romantically-inclined music that has a habit of showing its emotions with little to no warning. On ‘Total Zombie’ - his second song to date - he gives up on pretence, using little to no delay or reverb, instead forging heartbreaking pop in a brilliant flash of life.
“Close your eyes and I’ll close mine,” he sings, capturing the same daydreaming spirit that defined his hype-gaining debut ‘Nothing At All’. Fusing melancholia and dreamy, DIIV-esque guitar lines, the trick to Phillips is how he dresses up affecting pop songs. At first his sound comes off like guitar pop-by-the-numbers, but then out steps one magnificent, emotional juggernaut that’d strike within any genre confines. Just make sure it doesn’t eat your brains.
DIY is premiering ‘Total Zombie’ below.
