Completing the jigsaw
Death Cab For Cutie fans are piecing out lyrics to the band’s new single
‘Black Sun’ is being patched together from thirty “unique pieces”.
Death Cab For Cutie are readying the lead single from their new album ‘Kintsugi’. ‘Black Sun’ is set to land later this week, and in advance fans of the band are being asked to piece together lyrics for the Ben Gibbard-penned track.
Thirty unique pieces have been sent to fans, each containing a lyric or a phrase that - when combined - form the song’s verses. Fans are being asked to upload arty photos of each lyrical snippet, with everything coming together on ‘Black Sun’’s standalone site.
Each piece comes hand-painted by Gibbard.
‘Kintsugi’ is due out 30th March. The title refers to “a Japanese style of art where they take fractured, broken ceramics and put them back together with very obvious, real gold. It’s making the repair of an object a visual part of its history. That resonated with us as a philosophy, and it connected to a lot of what we were going through, both professionally and personally,” according to bassist bassist Nick Harmer.
