Death Grips Never Planned On Showing Up To Lollapalooza

iPhone music, suicide notes and a no-show… This ‘was the show’, apparently.

Last week

two scheduled Death Grips performances didn’t end up happening: An aftershow at Chicago’s Bottom Lounge and a full set proper at the festival. The no-shows prompted fan retaliation; smashed up drum-kits, that kind of thing. Turns out they’d never intended to turn up to these shows. Turns out, this was all some ‘art performance’ schtick.

At the Bottom Lounge event there was no music, just a bannered ‘suicide note’ from a fan on gmail and a tiny drumkit on stage which got its comeuppance. This was the show, apparently.

The venue’s marketing director Erin O’Neal stated: ‘It appears to us that despite having a signed contract, they never intended on performing last night and instead wanted to leave a room of disappointed fans.’

She also claimed that the drumkit was a child’s one, never intended to be played. Death Grips had never intended to be in the city for these shows, the same applying to a date in Boston. Charming.
