Destroyer shares new ‘Tinseltown Swimming In Blood’ video
It takes inspiration from 1962 French film ‘La Jetée’.
Last month, Destroyer announced that their new album ‘ken’ would be coming out on 20th October through Dead Oceans/ Merge, and shared a new track, ‘Sky’s Grey’.
As the release date approaches, Den Bejar has shared another new cut from the album ‘Tinseltown Swimming In Blood’. It’s also got a video directed by Karen Zolo (aka KC), which takes much inspiration from Chris Marker’s 1962 French film ‘La Jetée’.
In ‘La Jetée’, which is almost entirely constructed from still photos, Marker tells the story of a post-nuclear war experiment. KC does something very similar, using still images to tell a story of borders, identity and race.
Zolo said of the video: “I’d just had a conversation about artist Chris Marker with a friend when I was approached to make a music video for the upcoming Destroyer album. ‘You have a month.’ Okay… I had no idea what the song even sounded like, but the only idea I had was to remake Chris Marker’s La Jetée as faithfully as possible. It’s not just an homage to the great cine-poet; it’s also about the medium of film, about still photography. It would have been a billion times easier and less stressful to shoot it digitally, but it was worth it.”
Destroyer will be heading on tour across the UK in November and December. Tickets are on sale now.
