Dirty Beaches Previews New Album With ‘Casino Lisboa’
Alex Zhang Hungtai’s intense, ultra-aggressive sound persists in thrilling circumstances.
Dirty Beaches’ work is always cinematic, the ‘Badlands’ LP from 2011 none more so, but it’s a theme that continues right up to his forthcoming release, the double album ‘Drifters/Love Is The Devil’.
If ‘Casino Lisboa’ is a distinct Hollywood location or a specific scene, it’s one of carnage, gun-wielding gangsters wrecking slot machines with bullet holes.
If the songwriting is much of the time direct and in-your-face - and Alex has admitted as much in previous comments about his latest work - it reaches its peak with ‘Casino Lisboa’. It’s blood-soaked dollar bills, gritty melodrama in its finest form.
Stream the new track via FACT below. The new double-LP is released on 21st May via Zoo Music. Catch up on ‘check out Emma Swann’s photos from his ATP I’ll Be Your Mirror show at London’s Alexandra Palace last weekend.
