EERA shares a stark yet intimate video for ‘Living’

Before the release of her debut album ‘Reflection of Youth’ earlier in the month, Norwegian-born, London-based musician Anna Lena Bruland – better known as EERA – shared the single ‘Living’.

At the time, EERA described the track as being “an apology directed to one of my best friends, for a time in my life when I was dealing with a lot of stuff and putting a lot of it on him”.

Now the track has a new clip, directed by Jodie Canwell, who’s also taken the helm for videos for The Big Moon, Lucy Rose and Spring King. Canwell marries the stark, haunting nature of the track itself with black and white footage of EERA performing the track against a sparkling curtain, standing alone on the stage. It cuts between close-ups of her face and longer shots of her playing, but never loses a sense of intimacy.

Speaking of the video, Canwell said: “The inspiration came from the video for Pixies’ ‘Monkey Gone To Heaven’. I wanted to create a performance video that was presented as a piece of art where the focus was really on the subject and the lighting, in order to make it as honest and as intimate as possible, which I feel reflects the song”.
