Eugene Quell announces new EP ‘A Great Uselessness’

Stream new track ‘That One Song’ from the release, out on July 7.

Eugene Quell has announced details of a second EP, set for release on July 7.

Titled ‘A Great Uselessness’, it’s preceded by lead track ‘That One Song’, about which Quell says: “The song’s about a band from Iowa called Ten Grand. They have been a big influence on my writing since I first heard them back in 2004. They seemed to burst with pure soul and expression, often at the expense of their music, and I’m all for that. Their singer/guitarist, Matt Davis passed away in 2003 just as things seemed to start kicking off for them, he was only 26. So fucking tragic.

“While searching around online I found quotes and stories which revealed Matt to be an exceptionally lovely person. I used these quotes, liner notes from their records and some of my own thoughts in writing the lyrics for this song.”

Eugene Quell, fresh off the back of a three week UK and European tour, will play a DIY Presents show at London’s Old Blue Last on July 3.
