Eugene Quell streams fizzing ‘A Great Uselessness’ EP in full

Actually-quite-useful new EP helps the Brighton grunger stand out in a crowd.

Eugene Quell streams fizzing 'A Great Uselessness' EP in full

Last time we heard from Eugene Quell, he was getting down on one knee and proposing to his girlfriend during a DIY Presents gig at London’s The Old Blue Last. Chances are the celebrations are still in full flow - that’ll continue in two weeks’ time with the release of his new EP, ‘A Great Uselessness’.

Ahead of that release, we’re delighted to be bringing you the full stream of the Brighton grunger’s latest release. Four fizzing tracks span just over ten minutes in total. Each one is a brutal kick to the shins, an intentionally nasty shock to the system. Judging by his recent proposal, Quell’s probably a bit of a sweetie, but on this release he gives the opposite impression. There’s the brilliantly bored ‘Alta Loma’, the almighty ‘That One Song’, and the muffled out comedown ‘And There Goes the Drugs’. It’s a frenzied explosion of force, a lifetime’s worth of frustration expressed in a single brutal attack.

Listen in full to Eugene Quell’s ‘A Great Uselessness’ below. 10” vinyl (priced at £5) is available on his Bandcamp for pre-order.

Eugene Quell plays a DIY Presents gig with Speedy Ortiz and Happyness at Brighton’s Prince Albert, 14th August. He’ll also appear at Bristol’s Simple Things Festival, 25th October.
