Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman to miss London show

The guitarist has released a statement in regards to tomorrow evening’s performance.

Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman has confirmed that he will not be playing during their show at London’s Islington Assembly Hall tomorrow night (14th January).

The news of his absence was broken late last night, when he took to the band’s official website to post a statement. It reads as follows.

“I regret to inform our fans that I will not be performing with the band this week in London. This was not an easy decision to make on my end. In an effort to be fully transparent, I would like to explain why. In late-September of 2014 my mother started showing signs of a serious illness related to a condition she was treated for 30 years ago. After some tests my mother was diagnosed with what is known as a glioblastoma multiforme. A glioblastoma is the most aggressive type of brain tumor one can get, and with no hope of finding a cure.

After several months of treatment (i.e. radiation therapy, chemotherapy) with no positive response, her health rapidly deteriorated. She was admitted into hospice by the end of December. My family and I have been by her side every step of the way.

As of Sunday, January 11 2015 my mother passed away. I can’t express the sorrow and heartache I am currently feeling. For now I have to be with my family and help everyone cope: Hopefully everyone reading this understands and holds no ill will towards me for making this decision.

In the mean time the show must go on. My dear friend, bandmate (from non-FOB projects) and guitar tech (i.e. guy who makes my gear work and keeps me looking/sounding good) Josh Newton will be more than filling in my shoes. He’ll help keep the guys company until I make my return.

Thanks for reading and understanding, Joe Trohman”

Fall Out Boy are currently in the UK and earlier today, the remaining three members visited BBC Radio 1, to perform ‘Uptown Funk’ in the Live Lounge.

The band’s new album ‘American Beauty/ American Psycho’ gets released on 19th January.
