Father John Misty airs ‘Leaving LA’ on 6 Music
He did a lovely rendition of the ‘Pure Comedy’ track.
Father John Misty confirmed his second album ‘Pure Comedy’ last month, and since then he’s wasted no time in putting out regular tasters of the record. First came the epic title-track, closely followed by ‘Two Wildly Different Perspectives’ and ‘Ballad of a Dying Man’. Now, he’s shared a FOURTH preview, the generous so-and-so.
Clocking in at a fairly impressive 13 minutes, ‘Leaving LA’ meanders between topics, ranging from first memories, to choking on candy, and buying guns online. ‘I’ve never seen a sunset this abandoned, reminds me predictably of the world’s end” stands out as one lyrical highlight in the Very Long Song.
Before playing ‘Leaving LA’ Josh Tillman told host Lauren Laverne that he’s been working on ‘Pure Comedy’ for “a good three years”. After the song finished, Father John Modest asked Lauren if he took the biscuit out of all the white men she’s ever seen play guitar. She replied “yes, you’re my favourite” which was kind of her.
