flirting. melt emo, indie and post-rock together on a brilliant debut EP
‘This Would Be Funny If It Were Happening To Anyone But Me’ is out now via Noise Is Therapy.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from flirting.
Back in June, we shared ‘Peppermint’, the new single from London five-piece flirting. and the first preview of their debut EP.
The full record is out now via Noise Is Therapy, and is today’s Neu Pick. ‘This Would Be Funny If It Were Happening To Anyone But Me’ feels like a suitable title for the EP, a record that tackles difficult subjects with tongue often in cheek, melting emo, indie, post-rock and more with a complete disregard for traditional genre boundaries.
First track ‘Yum’, which stretches across six-and-a-half minutes, sees the band’s two vocalists twisting in and out of each other wonderfully, two distinct perspectives contrasting and adding even more layers to the band’s already textured approach.
The previously released ‘Peppermint’ anchors the EP, before the slow, contemplative ‘Lilac’ and glitchy ‘In The Dark’ round off a release that sees flirting. dipping into all corners of the guitar music spectrum, and pulling out gems from each and every one.
