Floating Points announces ‘Kuiper’ EP, shares live video
The follow-up to ‘Elaenia’ is led by an emphatic performance video from Sam Shepherd and pals.

He might only have just let loose Floating Points’ debut album ‘Elaenia’, but Sam Shepherd isn’t sitting back on his laurels.
A short-playing follow-up, the ‘Kuiper’ EP, is set for release on 22nd July via Pluto. It’s being led by a performance video of the EP’s title-track that captures Sam and his impossibly tight live band at their sprawling best. An 18-minute odyssey, packed full of more tangles than those iPod headphones you left in your pocket all winter, it’s a gripping insight into Floating Points’ live show.
“Since starting a band to realise the music from my LP, it has sparked a deep interest in the band itself, and so ‘Kuiper’ is the result of playing with Leo, Alex and Susum,” explains Sam in a press release. “Each time we play it it’s completely different. We set the scene with electronics, and some drum machines which forms the foundation to allow the unfurling of the rest of the track. The version on this EP - believe it or not - was recorded at 8am!”
‘Kuiper’ is backed by ‘For Marmish Pt. II’ for the 12” release, which is up for pre-order here. Last year we spoke to Floating Points about the challenge of adapting his work to the live arena - catch up with that here, and stream the full 18 minutes of ‘Kuiper’ below.
