That planned Foals hiatus? They’ve binned it off

Rejoice! They’re diving straight into album five instead.

They’re more indecisive than your kid cousin in a sweet shop, that Foals lot - in a new interview, they’ve confirmed that their plans for a hiatus after Reading and Leeds have been scrapped.

Speaking in the new issue of Q, they reveal that they’re instead planning on diving straight into album five after their November show in Hong Kong. “I want us to break the chains of familiarity and to have that question mark in the room again,” explains Yannis of their decision to bin their planned rest time. “I think that it’ll be beneficial for the band just to be nervous about being in the room together again. I think we need to rock our own boat.”

It’s exciting news, and one that correlates with guitarist Jimmy Smith’s reveal to DIY earlier in the year that “there’s more to come after Reading.” As it turns out, there’s a whole lot more than we first anticipated.

They’re more than a little excited about the actual act of headlining Reading and Leeds, too. “Reading’s got this raw, rock, youthful first-time festival-goer type of energy,” Yannis explains in that same Q interview. “I think it’s gonna be my favourite show of the year.”

Y’know what Yannis, we think it might just be ours too. We’re getting awfully excited about it.

Foals play AMA (23rd - 29th August), where DIY is an official media partner. Tickets are on sale now. Visit diymag.com/presents for more information.
