Former Lostprophets members team up with Geoff Rickly for No Devotion

The six-piece have unveiled plans to release their debut single on 21st July.

Just under eight months ago Lostprophets made their split official, but now the five former members of the band have unveiled details of a new musical project.

Teaming up with Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly, who will lead the new six-piece, Lee Gaze, Luke Johnson, Mike Lewis, Jamie Oliver, and Stuart Richardson will now be working under the musical guise of No Devotion.

Following on from the multiplatinum band’s demise last year, it’s safe to say that the remaining band mates were at a loss. “We didn’t know if we would ever make music again,” Richardson admits, in a press release, “if people would look us in the face. Everything felt like it was over.”

It was then, however, that they turned to Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly, who was exploring his own solo career whilst working as a member of experimental grindcore group United Nations at the time. “To be honest, I never really listened to Lostprophets,” Rickly says, in the same press statement. “But with this music, we speak a common language. You don’t really grow out of punk, you grow with it. To my mind, post-punk was about taking a more sophisticated approach to that sound, and I think we all have a shared respect for that era of modern music.”

Presenting him with a selection of instrumental songs that the group had been working on, things then began to slot into place. “I had always liked these guys in passing: they’re funny and self-aware,” he continues, “I didn’t think it was fair, what was happening to them. And, well, the music was too good to pass up.”

“We didn’t know what else to do,” Richardson concludes. “We just wrote music. I didn’t know if anyone would ever want to hear it, I didn’t know if anyone ever would hear it. I just needed to occupy my brain. We just needed this.”

The band have now confirmed plans to release their debut single ‘Stay’, which comes complete with b-side ‘Eyeshadow’, on 21st July through Collect Records. The 12” vinyl release will land ahead of a four-date tour of the UK, as follows.
