Gangster's paradise
GEMS share dramatic new video for ‘Sinking Stone’
DC duo’s dreamy beach pop is set against a getaway gangster chase in this new clip.
In the past couple of years, DC duo GEMS have cemented themselves as one of the go-to acts for dreamy, all-encompassing pop. Initial demos were recorded in a beach hut, and much of their recent output still seems firmly set in this relaxing, lazy day location.
Cue the ‘Sinking Stone’ video, which completely flips the book and finds the pair’s latest single soundtracking a bullet-firing getaway. In a gloomy, blood-lined DAZED production, the narratives circuits around one crucial, dramatic event towards the end. Everything in between is more ambiguous, with the scene coming off like a cross between Breaking Bad and Bonnie & Clyde.
Production team BRTHR direct the video.
‘Sinking Stone’ is taken from GEMS’ ‘Medusa’ EP, which came out in 2013.
GEMS’ next gig is at DC’s U Street Music Hall with Tei Shi and Verite.
